HTC as one of the biggest players on the smartphone market
It may surprise some people to learn that HTC is one of the biggest makers of smart phones. The reason for this is that a lot of their phones are actually sold under different names. These days however an increasing number are being sold under the HTC name and the company is starting to develop a reputation as one of the better makers of smart phones, a reputation that is well deserved given the number of innovations they have introduced.
There are several reasons that HTC are one of the biggest players on the smart phone market. One of those reasons is that they got involved early with Microsoft in building smart phones. When Microsoft decided to get into the smart phone business they had no interest in building their own handset, they just wanted to build the operating system. The problem was that at the time all smart phone makers developed their own operating system. Microsoft therefore partnered with HTC who were at the time a maker of laptops and got them to build handsets that could use their operating system. Needless to say this proved to be very popular and resulted in HTC becoming a major player in the smart phone market.
The other reason that HTC became one of the biggest players in the smart phone market was that they were one of the first to offer handsets that could be used with multiple operating systems. Although when they first got started in the smart phone business they were building phones that were intended for Microsoft's operating system they are now also building phones that use the Android operating system.
The other reason that HTC has become one of the biggest smart phone makers is that they build a lot of phones for other companies. In fact there are many people who have an HTC smart phone and don't realize it. In the early days in particular the company would partner with telecom companies to produce products that could be sold under the telecom company's name. This resulted in a huge amount of sales for the company and allowed them to really grow. Nowadays most of the phones that HTC produces are sold under their own name but they do still make some phones for telecom companies.
Like all smart phone makers HTC has a huge research and development department and this has resulted in them introducing a large number of innovative products. In the industry that they are in as soon as you do something innovative you can be sure that your competitors will copy it, that means that it is a constant struggle to stay ahead. So far HTC have been able to do just that in large part because they have invested more into developing their products than their competitors have.
